Mission Impossible

We don't celebrate Haloween around here... it's not neccessary, but it's just not a good 31st of October unless there are a few pranks. So this year a few girls from Gould (Megan Lynch, Barbara Gerlach, Heather Rineger, Lisa Root, Ashley Sloop, and Nikki Bowers) decided it would be wonderful to TP their dorm's sup's (Heather Waite) appartment. Heather took it really well... She actully wanted a picture with the perpetrators in the TP'd room. What fun what fun!

Ok, I normally don't do this in this blog, but it's my Blog and I will do what I wish: I am going to give a personal testimony. Yesterday marked the start of the Misson's conference here at MBBC. I came in with the attitude of "Oh, it'll be nice to see videos of the missionaries, and all, but I've got a lot of work to do, and I really wish the wouldn't make it a requirement to go to these things, because they make you feel that if you do not go to the Foriegn field, you're not a good Christian." Anywho, I still like to hear preaching so I asked the Lord to open my heart to whatever he wanted me to hear... Ouch. Last night Dr. Sisk (sp?) preached about the joy of missions, his main three points were there is Joy to the Recipiant, there is Joy in Heaven, and there is joy to the participant, and the Lord did a mighty tug in my heart. I may not be called to a foreign field, I don't know, but that doesn't mean I can't expeiriance the joy that Dr. Sisk was talking about... What about here? When was the last time I handed a tract to someone? When was the last time I pulled out of my comfort zone to ask someone where they were going to spend eternity? When was the last time I spent hours of prayer burdened for just one soul? Then this morning when Mrs. Zimmer was talking about how she was struggling about going to the mission field because of fear of losing comfort... the thought came to me again. I struggle often with witnessing because, well it's uncomfortable... but am I going to risk someone's chance at eternity for a few years of comfort? I can't be an effective Christian if I am not willing to be uncomfortable. I guess the whole point of me writing this is, yeah... the mission's conference is geered to stir up a zeal for missions... but don't turn your heart off just because you don't feel a call to a foreign field... Missions is just more than going to Africa, Europe, South America, ect.. Missions is being effective wherever you are at for Christ. Open your heart to what God has to say... and if he calls you to a Foreign field great, if he doesn't... be effective where you are at.

Going on Extension

Maranatha is great because instead of having a campus church, Students have the opportunity to searve in many different local churches within the area of Wisconsin. The group of students pictured above minister in Stoughton Wisconsin. (about 45 miles from the campus of MBBC) There students have the opportunity to do special music, deaf ministry, kids club, teen time, nursing home, and many other areas of "filling in where needed." For churches that are over a half an hour away from campus, most of the church people will offer to have the students over for Sunday afternoon so they do not have to travel back and forth. It truely is a blessing to minister on extension.

Fall Fest

It's been the buzz around campus for the last few weeks... "Oo, who are you taking?" "Ooo, he asked me!!!!" or "Oo, she's going with me!" Whatever the conversation, Fall fest usually comes into it sometime. Last night was the big event, girls spent hours fixing their hair to impress that special guy, and at 7pm Sharp all the work, sweat, and preparation paid off.

The Entertainment this year was fabulous, All three college choirs joined forces to present Negro-Spirituals to the audiance. It was a special blessing to the heart because inbetween each song, there was a scripture reading and narration that brought application. It was Absolutely Beautiful!!!
The Orchestra was also part of this production, along with the precussion ensamble (which played Dry Bones for an offertory) Dr. Saxon did the narration, Tim Miller, Scott Love, and Nathan Sutherland did the scripture reading. Truely it was a God gloryfiying program.

Harvest...

The snackshop here has been appropriately decorated for Autumn(I may get a picture of it here sometime)... "Pray ye therefore the LORD of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest." Question is... are we faithfully living that verse? Just because we are on campus and surrounded by Christians gives us no excuse to not be labourers in the harvest. We are a student body of 900+ students and we should faithfully going off campus and having a postive effect on the communities around us... Go! Do! NOW!!!!!!!

YEAH CLASS COLOR DAY!

Class color day is the most looked forward to day of spirit week because we get to have CRAZY CHAPEL. Crazy Chapel is a competition between the classes. Each class wears a different Color. Every year the colors vary except for one which is Freshmen ALWAYS wear PINK! This year Sophomores wore ORANGE , Juniors wore RED, and Seniors wore GREEN. Before the competition in crazy chapel started, Seniors and Sophomores were tied for first in the class pariticpation for Spirit week, But by the end of Class chapel the Juniors wiped the floor with us. Oh weel, either way, we had a great time dressing up this week, and participating. Just being able to wear casual dress was well worth it!

School Spirit!

Today the entire campus rivited with school spirit. Blue and Gold all the way people! I have to admit, I didn't take all these pictures myself, actully I only took 2 of them. The rest I took from Cnet which is our student home page, but I couldn't get any really good pictures so since only students can see the Cnet page, I didn't find any harm in coping some of the images over to my blog for the rest of the world to see!!

Hawiian Snow!

Hawiian Day was a blast. Many people participated with bright colors and BIG FLOWERS. Absolutely the best day of Spirit week yet. While everyone was wearing their flip-flops and tropical garb, we found it really funny when we saw the first snowflakes fall to the ground today. Only on hawiian day would it snow!!!!

Monochromatic Day

Most of the maranatha students looked like they were in mourning or something today, but it was really cool because MOST of the student population participated in Monochormatic day. It was great. Also, Sophomores are ahead as far as class participation for spirit week! GO SOPHOMORES!!! WOOO HOOOO!

Duct Tape Day

Spirit week has All of the Crusader Students "abuzz" with fun ideas. Today we had Duct Tape Day. It was crazy to see all the Students with crazy outfits constructed of duct tape. But it is even more funny to see Factuly (note mr.wetzle) wearing duct tape with Pride :)

Another highlight of the day was Matt Herbster preached in chapel about authority. One word... OUCH! I think that no matter where a person stood as far as obediance towards authority, everyone should have walked away with a little conviciton concerning their relationship to authority. I know I did!

Casual Day...

There is a BIG dispute about casual day and the rule changes regarding it. Yeah, so we lost the prividlege of getting to wear CASUAL DRESS (jean skirts, sweatshirts, ect.) But acting like petulent spoiled children isn't going to change anything! I am sorry, but the purchasing of casual day stickers isn't about the priviledge it's about the ministry behind it. So buy a casual day sticker, even if you don't take advantage of the no tie or no nylon thing... just buy the sticker to support the Lord's work through campus minitries!

This weekend there was a little "down time" on the internet server. The down time was a little bit of an inconvienciance for some of the students here at MBBC, I being one of them who was a little big irritated. But really, as I got to thinking about it... They spend ALL week here fixing this and that and debuging this or that, and working themselves to death just to keep 900 students happy at all times with the network... They don't get much of a break ever... so when they go home for the weekend don't they deserve a break!? So we were without internet... for those of us with classes online, wasn't it nice not to have to do the homework!? So many times it seems that we get stuck on the "I want this to go my way" that we forget to see the big picture. Just because things dont' work as smoothly as we would like them to go, instead of getting irritated at particular people and blaming them and grumbling about it... get over it, deal with it... and in the mean time thank the IT department for the hard effort they do put in.

Midnight Volleyball

Every year, Maranatha does a campus volleyball Tournament at Riverside park. It is a great night of teamwork and fun. Usually it starts around 6 and goes till 11 or so, but they ended early for another activity on campus. It was a good night, I believe I can say that all the teams had a blast, even though we all played rather sadly. :)

UPDATE: Last night during our room devotions, my entire room (who will remain annonymous) spent about an hour praying for revial not only on campus, but that it'll start with our room, and The Lord's already working! SOO SOOO SOO Exciting!

Today was the first Student Body Chapel this semester. Student Body Chapel is when all the faculty and teachers have their own chapel, and the student Body leaders lead the student body in a manatony breaking chapel. Usually the Student Body Leaders have a fun video that they produce to show at chapel, then they play some games, we sing some fun songs, and then the Student Body President or another Student Body Leader ends with a challenge from the Word of God. Today Nick Peterson (Student Body President) challenged us with the concept of revival. One thing that really stood out to me in his message was what kind of impact a revival in a school of only 1000 people could really have on the world. Just think, revival first must take place in the hearts of individuals before it starts taking place on an instatatution as a whole so, Revival touches one single heart, which touches another single heart, which will spread to the entire school, the revival that takes palce in those 1000 people, will spread to 1000 families, which will in turn touch 1000 home churches, which will inturn touch the communities of and surrounding the churches, not to mention the missionaries and countries that those churches support... Pretty soon, we have a nationwide revival. While sitting in chapel, and taking all that was being said into thought, something came to me, Last year there was a very hard spirit throughout the entire campus, but this year I can already tell there is a spirit of willingness to see God work. You can see this spirit in our Student Body Leaders, Faculty and the Student Body as a Whole. Just pray that the spirit won't leave as times get troublesome. May the ever going theme of Maranatha be "Revival" not only revival in the campus of MBBC, but revival in each individual. Once Revival is started there is no boundry to what God can do through his servants!

Who says Christian's Can't have fun!?

Students from Maranatha were thrilled for the shorten classes on Labor Day, but the real fun began at 12:30 after classes. Both Faculty and Studnets gathered between the Library and Spurgeon Dorm (Men's residence) to play games and have a good time of Fun and Fellowship. Some of the highlights of the afternoon was, being able to dunk your dorm supervisor, teacher, or fellow upperclassemen in the dunk tank, Slip and sliding on the "BLUE WAVE" bouncing around in DABounce House, and waiting in line to ride Dr. J's Harley or Mr. Richard's (Dean of Studnets) motorcycle. The best part of the afternoon was just being able to run around, be a little crazy, and visit with friends. Some people think that if you are a Christian you cannot have fun any more, but I tell you what, Fun and Crazieness is not hard to find on the campus of Maranatha. It's even more of an encouragment when prominant faculty and staff (such as our president, dean of studnets, bible faculty, Dorm Sups. Mrs. Wetzle (hehe) ect. ect. ect.) Roll up their sleeves, and join right in the middle of the fun. (oh and the girls won their soccer game yesterday too, but that wasn't near as exciting to me as riding the Harley with Dr. J!)

Alumi Days mark the first weekend of Fall Semester:

Labor weekend marked a very exciting weekend as MBBC students past, present, and future gathered together at the Alumi Day's Football game. Being the first Home game of the crusader football team, there was a grand turn out for the event. Above left we have a picture of the head of the Education Department, (Dr. Jackson) visiting with students while observing the game. Above center four current Students (Ashley Sloop, Justina Nielsen, Lisa Root, & Bryan Root) visit and joke while watching the game. I believe that the crowd had more fun visiting than watching the game which made it all the more memorable. And just in case you were wondering the Maranatha Crusaders beat the Alumni 20 to 7. (above right)
